Customer Service Point (CSP) fraudulently withdrew money from the bank accounts of customers by using their Digital Fingerprint. This Digital Fingerprint incident happened at Samastipur Junction, located in Bihar state, where a person visited the CSP center to update his Aadhar card fingerprint. However, the victim was not aware that CSP could use his fingerprint digitally to withdraw unauthorized money from his bank account.

What is Customer Service Points (CSP) – CSP are authorized representatives who offer essential banking services such as account opening, cash deposit and withdrawal, balance inquiry, and fund transfers.
The victim discovered that money had been stolen from his bank account and immediately went to the cyber cell police station to file a complaint. After conducting an investigation, the police discovered that a CSP employee was collecting digital fingerprint data and passing it on to another person.
The culprit responsible for the theft has been identified as Roshan Kumar. The police were able to track him down through his CSP ID. Kumar had illegally collected over 200 digital fingerprints, which he used to withdraw small amounts ranging from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 10000 from the bank accounts of numerous individuals. In total, he fraudulently withdrew around Rs. 2 lakh. Due to the small amount of money involved, most people did not report the fraud to the police.
It is impossible to capture fingerprints using the original CSP software. These criminals were using unauthorized software to capture fingerprints and masking URLs.
We have issued a notice to a business company regarding the safety of their CSP system. This system does not use OTP, which makes it vulnerable to unauthorized withdrawals without the account holder’s knowledge. Moreover, this system is not in compliance with the RBI guidelines. Therefore, we have raised our concerns about its safety and security” Senior Police.
