According to security officials, the ethnic bloodshed in Manipur is getting worse because of fake news and rumors. Since May 3, more than 160 people have died in fights between Kukis and Meiteis. Reports and videos of women being abused, gang-raped, and paraded around naked caused anger across the country. The Supreme Court and PM Modi also spoke out against the behavior. Most of these deadly events are thought to have started because of false stories. The shocking attack on two women in Kangpokpi district on May 4 because of a fake photo showed how bad it can be when people spread false information.
