Bengaluru/Kerala: The Kerala police arrested four Karnataka police, including a Bangalore police inspector Shivaprakash with three junior officers for accepting a bribe; Karnataka Police from Bangalore Whitefield Police Station visited Kerala for investigation. On Wednesday, the Kerala Kalamassery police arrested Karnataka Police and about Rs 4 lakh in cash was recovered.
Chandaka Srikanth, a software engineer from Bengaluru, made a case at the Whitefield police station. He said that cyber fraud had happened. The Whitefield CEN police officers who were looking into the case went to Madikeri to talk to a suspect named Issac. Police found transactions worth Rs 2 crore on Isaac’s account, which led them to another suspect named Naushad from Kochi, Kerala. This is where Shivaprakash is said to have asked the accused for Rs.10 lakh in cash. Reports say that he was caught in the act of taking a Bribe of Rs. 3.95 lakhs.
The Whitefield Bengaluru police arrested two individuals from Malappuram. Following that, two more individuals were taken into custody from Kumbalangi in Kochi. The officers from the Bengaluru Police were accused of demanding a bribe to remove their names from the list of suspects.
The families of the youth approached the Kerala police for help after the Karnataka police refused to release them despite receiving payment. The Karnataka police demanded more bribes.
Shivaprakash and his associates were apprehended by the Kalamassery police in Kochi and a case was registered against them. The Kerala police are coordinating with their counterparts in Karnataka to verify the identities of the detained police officials and the reason for their visit to Kochi.
