Maharashtra/Nagpur: A businessman from Nagpur, Maharashtra, initially won 5 crores through online gambling. However, he later lost 58 crores. The inquiry led police to a suspected bookie and the discovery of 14 crore cash and four kg of gold biscuits on Saturday, according to a police officer. However, the accused, Anant alias Sontu Navratan Jain, escaped before police stormed his home in Gondia City, 160 kilometers from Nagpur. According to the officer, police believe he has fled to Dubai.
“On the surface, Jain had persuaded the complainant, a businessman, to pursue internet gambling as a profitable path for profit in crores. “Initially hesitant, the businessman eventually succumbed to Jain’s persuasion and transferred Rs. 8 lakh through a hawala merchant,” Nagpur Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said.
Jain sent the businessman a WhatsApp link to register an online gaming account. According to Kumar, the businessman discovered an 8 lakh transfer in the account and began gaming.
The significant amount of cash is being tallied, and the total amount seized has yet to be determined.
“After initial success, the businessman’s fortunes took a drastic turn as he lost 58 crore while winning around 5 crore,” stated the police commissioner.
He claimed that when he lost money, the businessman became suspicious and demanded his money back, but Jain refused.
“The businessman filed a complaint with the cyber police, which resulted in the filing of a fraud case under the Indian Penal Code.” Police searched Jain’s home in Gondia. The operation yielded a large quantity of evidence, including 14 crores in cash and four kg of gold biscuits,” Kumar stated.
