Karnataka: On Monday, the Raichur district police in Karnataka shut down three (3) cyber cafes in Manvi town. The cybercafes reportedly charged individuals for enrolment registration charges in the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme, leading to the shutdown of cybercafes.
The Karnataka government has made clear that eligible women can register for Gruha Lakshmi scheme benefits without paying any registration fees. They can do so at authorized centers such as Karnataka One, Grama One, Bangalore One, and Bapuji Seva Kendra.
On Monday, Laxmi Hebbalkar, the Minister of Women and Child Development, issued a warning to those who demand money from ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ beneficiaries.
The police have registered an FIR against cyber cafes under IPC section 420 and the IT Act (for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property), as per the order of the tahsildar.
Tahsildar Chandrakanth conducted a raid on several cyber cafes and found out that they had obtained login IDs meant for authorized government offices. These LOGIN IDs were being used to register people for the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme of the Karnataka government, which provides Rs. 2,000 per month to the woman who is the head of the household.
