Bengaluru: Only those who sign up for the Gruha Jyothi Scheme will receive free electricity bills. In Karnataka, the Gruha Jyothi Scheme, which offers free electricity to users within a 200-unit slab, was started on July 1. Beginning in August, power bills will reflect the benefits of the programme. Mahantesh Bilagi, the Managing Director of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM), provided more details regarding the programme and mentioned that the benefits would be shown in the August bill.
A new program called Gruha Jyoti Yojana has been initiated in Karnataka, offering free electricity to households consuming up to 200 units. This scheme commenced on July 1st, and the customers will notice the benefit in their electricity bills starting from August.
“The free electricity provision went into effect on Saturday, and the advantage will be reflected in the August bill. There are 2.14 crore beneficiaries in the state right now. There were initially some misunderstandings during the registration period on June 17, but the e-governance system has since fixed the problems, making the application procedure essentially trouble-free. Over a million registrations had occurred in the state on some days, he claimed.
Both the online and offline registration processes are presently running. Residents in Bengaluru and other areas of Karnataka can register for free power by visiting the new Gruha Jyothi link at www.sevasindhugs.karnataka.gov.in
On 15 June, a notice was released, giving power users 53 slabs to take into account while building new homes or changing tenants. Before providing more information, BESCOM is also modifying the bill’s format and waiting for government clearance, according to Bilagi.
BESCOM’s comments on rising electricity prices
In response to complaints about increased electricity bills, Bilagi stated that the billing cycle was delayed from June 1 to June 7 due to the uncertainty surrounding the implementation of Gruha Jyoti, adding an additional seven days’ worth of expenses. He added that several bills had arrears because of higher rates. We guarantee that there won’t be any technical problems going forward. Our IT staff is aggressively addressing the issue while spreading awareness among the general public to stay away from unapproved connections because we are aware of complaints regarding bogus links.
We are methodically putting the plan into action and making improvements. Beneficiaries have submitted applications through Seva Sindhu, and the e-governance division is sending the information to us for consideration. He said the beneficiaries’ August bills would contain information about the precise amount of free electricity each household is entitled to.
