Bengaluru: A video of a woman asking a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) conductor about his green skull cap went viral. In the video, the woman said, “You may follow your religion at home, but is this cap part of your uniform?” “If it’s not yours, you shouldn’t wear it,” the woman told the BMTC conductor and force him to take off the skull cap.
The transportation department said there is no rule about how workers can show their religion. The department also said that the woman who asked the BMTC conductor to take off the skull cap will not be in trouble. It is also said that the BMTC conductor, followed by a woman, did not go to work for a few days.
According to the report, the department established a code of conduct for bus drivers many years ago. The code of conduct for employees in the transport department was reviewed a long time ago, and no modifications have been made in recent years. However, there is no such regulation prohibiting employees from wearing religious symbols to work. “The rule does not advocate the practice,” a transport department public relations officer has been quoted.
In a video that went viral, an unnamed woman can be heard asking the bmtc conductor if his skull cap is part of his government outfit. BMTC conductor replied that he had been wearing it for a long time and that anyone could wear it if they wanted to.
