Bengaluru: On July 15, a Lokayukta police tracked and caught a BBMP food inspector Mahanthe Gowda fleeing in a car after accepting a bribe from a dealer. Mahanthe Gowda B, the accused, works at the K.G. Road Circle bbmp office. BBMP food officer Mahanthe Gowda asked for a bribe of one lakh rupees in exchange for a trade license.
On July 15, he was confronted by a Lokayukta team led by Inspector Srikanth S… He had accepted 43,000 in advance. Mahanthe Gowda drove away in his automobile. The Lokayukta team chased the automobile for nearly 15 kilometers before apprehending Mahanthe Gowda near Sondekoppa Road in Nelamangala.
In an attempt to flee, the accused allegedly attempted to run over witnesses and officials. However, the Lokayukta team was able to apprehend him. The Lokayukta team recovered the accused’s bribe of Rs43,000 and arrested him under the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988.
bbmp food inspector Mahanthe Gowda was also charged with assault on a public worker and impeding officials from carrying out their responsibilities.
