Bengaluru: Aditya Prabhu, a BTech student at PES University Bengaluru who was 19 years old, Aditya Prabhu was harassed and provoked to death by the PES College authorities and died on July 17, 2023, after jumping from the eighth floor of a building in the PES University campus. The PES university said that Aditya Prabhu was sent out of the exam room because he used a cell phone to cheat. Aditya later went to another building on campus and jumped to his death from the eighth floor of that building. Girish Prabhu’s father told the police about what happened, so Girinagar police charged an invigilator, the management, and other PES University employees under IPC section 306.
Girish Prabhu shared his son’s experience of being harassed by an invigilator who found a mobile phone in Aditya’s bag during an exam. Despite the phone being in airplane mode, Aditya was forced to leave the hall. Girish Prabhu reported that the faculty even made a disturbing comment to Aditya, telling him it would be better for him to die than live in such a situation.
Ganesh Prabhu, the father of Aditya Prabhu, has lodged a complaint with the police against the college administration, principal, and other personnel. “PES University faculty provokes Aditya Prabhu suicide.”
When Aditya’s mother arrived at the college, the authorities were unaware of his location. She asked them to search for him and check the CCTV cameras. After some time, they informed her that they had found Aditya, but unfortunately, he had already passed away, and an ambulance had arrived on campus. Prabhu stated that the actions of the college personnel had led to Aditya’s tragic death.
Aditya’s mother said the college administrators undoubtedly tried to absolve themselves of responsibility to safeguard their image and took advantage of her delicate mental state since she was alone.
