Bangalore: In Hanuman Nagar, Four members of her homeowner assaulted a woman who is staying as a tenant. When the victim refused to pay an extra Rs 50,000 of the lease amount, the homeowner started harassing the victim with different tricks, and she said that her home lease agreement was still valid for three years and that she had already paid the whole amount of 6 lakh rupees. The homeowner wants extra money due to her brother’s marriage. The homeowner started to create unnecessary harassment, such as water bills, questioning my guests who visit my home, drinking and shouting near the door, and peeping from the window.

At midnight, 9 p.m. on 2 FEB 2024, the homeowner and his family came and broke down my gate; when I heard the sound of their activities, I rushed out and noticed that they had all started to cause a nuisance; when I questioned them, they began to shout, use harsh language on me, and assaulted me. Because of their behavior, I placed the CCTV cameras secretly, and the homeowners had no idea the cameras were turned On. I was able to show their behavior using CCTV evidence. Otherwise, everyone will think I’m wrong.

The owner of the house started spreading rumors about my character, which hurt me a lot. Since I work from home, my friends come to my house, and I order my food online, which is also a hassle when the delivery boys deliver the food. Because of this, I have suffered mental distress.

Homeowner #Gopal, Son Name #Gopi, and Daughter #Pormila assaulted me. I got internal injuries and pain, so I visited the nearest hospital for treatment, but when the doctor saw my internal injuries, the doctor started to question me and started to make an MLC, and the same MLC copy was forwarded to the Jeevan Bhima Nagar police station. At midnight, at 12 pm, I visited the Jeevan Bhima Nagar police station but had no results, so finally, I contacted Rise UP For Rights for help, and they guided and responded actively. The Rise UP team was with me to help file a complaint, but the police ignored filing an FIR, so they only did NCR the next day.

It was unexpected knowing that the police had simply filed an NCR without any discussion with me; also, I was unaware that the police had already done an NCR, which was preplanned by the police to protect criminals.

As the issue gained momentum with the help of Rise UP For Rights, the police began to take an interest in the FIR, and police started to ask me to come to the police station. However, they attempted to disguise the details of the case by framing it as a matter related to dogs. Dogs frequently come to the building due to the lack of a main gate, and each floor feeds the dogs. Even if I were to feed the dogs, how could a homeowner attack me solely because of this?

The police called both parties to come to a compromise. If no agreement was reached, the police were ready to file an FIR simultaneously. The victim mentioned that the accused’s family started touching her feet and begged her not to file an FIR, as his brother had recently gotten married, and they didn’t want to repeat the mistake. The victim got emotional and accepted their apology. The police took an apology letter from the accused’s family and warned them that a direct FIR would be filed without any further notice if they repeated the mistake.
